About New Ways Organization
New Ways Organization was founded by Somali elites in 1993, barely two years after the collapse of the government that had ruled the country. The collapse of the government marked the beginning of anarchy, civil war and uncertainty. Distribution of aid and other humanitarian service delivery became a challenge.
In the absence of a working administrative system, it was realized that aid was not reaching the most vulnerable populations of societies. Having touched by the sufferings of vulnerable people, a group of Somali elites felt the need to come up with an initiative to help vulnerable populations access humanitarian aid.
The group then resorted to establishing a local NGO that would help UN agencies, international NGOs and other charity providers deliver humanitarian aid smoothly and reach the most deserving people. New Ways came to being because of this initiative.
Following its establishment, the organization embarked with resource mobilization for community projects and started with health,
WASH and education projects before initiating a self-help project for vulnerable farmers in Ambanane area in L/Shabelle. The organization gradually improved and extended its humanitarian activities in the other regions. Over the years NWO has established itself as a reliable, imaginative and effective actor through its contribution at every level to ensure the establishment of quality standards and strategies in various sectors.
Our programme aims at maintaining and developing its institutional knowledge and expertise of working in Somalia. Since it was established, NWO has secured partnership with many governmental and non-governmental organizations where it implemented projects in many parts of the country.
New Ways is an active member of all the UNOCHA coordinated national and regional clusters, including health, WASH, nutrition, protection, education, and food security/livelihood. Since 2017, NWO has been included in OCHA’s list of eligible organizations and has successfully secured multiple projects.
