How New Ways Organization was founded

New Ways Organization, Somalia-based civil society organization established in 1993, is dedicated to promoting the thematic areas of Food Security, Livelihood, Climate Action Advocacy, peacebuilding and reconciliation, WASH, Education, Nutrition, Health, Good Governance, Cash Programming , Protection (Child protection and GBV), Social Inclusion ( Women, Youth, People with Disability, Marginalized Groups), Youth and Women empowerment through provision of skill training and enabling them participate in the promotion of socioeconomic, political, cultural, and environmental development of their communities.

The organization was established by Somali professionals and community leaders in response to the humanitarian crisis that followed the collapse of Somalia’s central government, when aid distribution and service delivery became severely disrupted. Recognizing that vulnerable communities were being left behind, the founders, with the help of a Switzerland based association spear headed by Vrena Krar who was later assassinated in Marka in the year 2002, came together with a shared commitment to ensure that lifesaving assistance reached those most in need. The group, having passed the test of peaceful aid distribution in the area, the Swissbased New Ways Association continued providing humanitarian assistance through this group which they also helped establish as national civil society organization under the Name “New Ways Organization”. The association with over 150 fundraiser members managed by 6-member board, continued supporting this organization in strengthening its capacity to deliver humanitarian and developments services to the vulnerable populations in its coverage geographical regions in Somalia. This was affirmed in the year 2014. The Swiss-based association’s board members were as follows: .

MemberSince its establishment, New Ways Organization has grown from a small community-based initiative in Marka District of Lower Shabelle into a recognized national NGO working across Bay, Lower Juba, Galgudud, Mudug, Hiran, Bay, Middle Shabelle and Banadir Regions, with an ambition to extend its activities in other parts of the country. Our mission is to tackle poverty, build resilience, and promote social justice by working closely with communities, humanitarian and development partners.
